Centex Homes Joins

BY EVE MARI NUGENT

Centex Homes, currently ranked the nation's largest builder of single-family detached homes, has joined the building boom in the Doral area. The subsidiary of the Dallas, Texas-based Centex Corporation, a Fortune 500 company that is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange ("CTX"), began construction of Doral Gardens one year ago.

Doral Gardens, a gated development, is divided into two communities, "The Meadows" and "The Lakes." A total of 135 one-story and two-story homes are scheduled to be built at 10755 NW 53rd Terrace. So far 70 homes have been sold, and construction at the development is expected to be completed in one year.

Amenities such as a community pool or a club are not available at Doral Gardens.

Director of Sales and Marketing Bill Brazil explained, " We have sophisticated buyers who are not first-time homeowners. There are amenities in the area for our buyers to enjoy if they choose to."

Project Sales Manager Jorge Lameran added, "Most of our buyers are from South America and Europe, doing business in Florida. They spend half of their time here and half at their home base. The are interested in the convenient location we have here."

Brazil added, "Doral is growing , the convenience is everything."

Brazil continued, "These homes have great floor plans and are offered at affordable prices. They are a good value for our clients."

Indeed, Centex, a 50 year old company, prides itself on building homes where buyers can choose optional features that fit their lifestyles, making "a house an individual home." Two "mandatory options" installed in every home are cable and security alarm systems, and their cost is included in the monthly homeowners' association fee.

Centex Homes has an excellent reputation and is currently building in eleven communities in southeast Florida from Port St. Lucie to Doral.

Its commercial construction affiliate, Centex-Rooney, built Orlando International Airport, Boca Raton's Mizner Park, the new Florida Panther Arena, and the Sawgrass Mills Mall, which is billed as Florida's second largest tourist attraction. Overall, the Centex Corporation expects to top $5 billion in revenue this year.

Along with its commitment to its customers Centex Homes also gives back to the community through its involvement with various charitable organizations.

"We're involved in Habitat for Humanity. We gave away a 3 bedroom/3 bath home in the development of Harbor Cove in the Village of Wellington through the "Dream Home Giveaway" a few months ago," recalled Mr. Brazil.

Centex is also concerned about preservation, conservation and the quality of life, and to that end Brazil added, "A one year membership in The Nature Conservancy (based in Arlington, Virginia) is given to all of our buyers. It has a worthwhile cause that goes hand in hand with the Centex goal: Building Community."
