To Whom It May Concern:
The many communities in Miami-Dade County that wish to incorporate are
well aware of the overwhelming number of good Metro Police officers.
The Miami Herald article of November 28, 1999 correctly brought to the
public's attention that a relatively small number of police thugs,
lead by the local PBA Chapter President John Rivera, use threats and
insults against law abiding citizens who are expressing their
constitutionally guaranteed right of free speech in favor of
incorporation.
I was present at a meeting in West Kendall when
Attorney Gene Stearns debated County Manager Steirhiem on
incorporation. PBA goons harassed and insulted Gene Stearns. Those of
us from other areas were challenged by them as to why we were present
when that was not our neighborhood. Mr. Rivera and his goon squad do a
disservice to the reputation of the many good Metro Police Officers.
John Rivera has frightened many good police officers
into thinking that their jobs will be lost if incorporation takes
place and local police departments are established. That is not true
at all. There will be many good police officers needed in the newly
incorporated areas where they can receive salaries and benefits equal
to what they are now receiving plus rapid advancement. Incorporation
will take place in the near future, regardless of how many good people
Mr. Rivera tries to discredit through witch-hunt investigations and
intimidation.
Who is willing to stand up to such actions by those
that are sworn to protect us? Good Metro Police Officers are need now
to speak up!
CLEAN HOUSE IN THE LOCAL PBA!
Sincerely,
Morgan I. Levy
